I would say that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was a great amount of episodes for what is really just a short story. Larger stories need a lot more time to breathe.

yes. Babylon 5 wouldn't be the same show without 22 episodes a season. a lot of shows benefit from the increased breathing room 22 episodes gives. it allows for side stories, deeper character moments, more careful and slow buildup of events.
