Valvular disease killed all 5 of my great-uncles before age 50, after having had rheumatic fever in childhood. As primary breadwinners, their deaths left behind grief- and poverty-stricken widows and children. One of my many, many reasons for continuing to mask up and avoid Covid at all costs.

I'm almost 80 and I wear an N95 in public indoor spaces. I'm shunned by people regardless of their politics. I've sadly learned to trust no one (even people I know) to isolate when they're unwell. Covid is still here. Almost no one cares if they transmit disease and the elderly die.
