People could wear respirators and stop this. Influenza doesn't magically appear in your body because it's cold outside. Someone who is infected breathes it out, and you breathe it in. IT'S AIRBORNE like cigarette smoke. Washing your hands won't stop it unless you breathe through your damn hands.

Somewhere there's a rubber stamp for the infection control response to airborne infections, worn away from overuse, that reads "the nurse who got sick probably did not wash her hands properly". Right next to the one that says "The patient was vulnerable so their death doesn't count".

That’s what gets me about this. The drafters of the Emergencies Act didn’t imagine a scenario where the province/municipality had an emergency, had the jurisdiction & means to handle it, & just refused to do so.

Accepting death as a normal system outcome is pretty bizarre and twisted. In aviation we know that people will be harmed but work and investigate every incident to learn so tomorrow will be a safer day. Of course death is a normal event after life, but it shouldn’t be in a system intended to heal

Imagine if a death in health care was investigated like one in aviation.

Quite frankly, it’s outrageous that Mark Carney is cutting Statistics Canada. If he was Stephen Harper or Pierre Poilievre, I feel like this would be getting a lot more backlash. Carney of all people should know the importance of high-quality data and information about the country.

I would argue that all covid deaths up until this point could have been prevented. That figure is over 250k. The single most important fact is covid is airborne!

So yeah, estimates will be higher than cases reported by the government who are not actually collecting and reporting cases.

Maybe if the people paid to track public health were doing so we wouldn't need to guess at how many cases there are at any given time.

Something to keep in mind, we only have estimates to go on now. You know how we would know how many cases there actually were? By counting them.

What if we hadn't eliminated testing for SARS-CoV-2 cases? What if we just had accurate case counts?

Not having read this yet I'm not sure why that works out to approx 103% but the difference between fomites and short /long range aerosol transmission is quite stark.

Like every other virus that affects the respiratory system, flu is spread primarily by aerosols, which can be effectively mitigated by ASHRAE 241 air handling upgrades, *continuous* (NOT EPISODIC) N95 wearing, and upper room UV. Engineers can end the transmission of aerosol spread disease.
