By 2021, Orbán had already implemented every anti-LGBTQ+ ban now sweeping the US. In 2023, he said of this: "Hungary is actually an incubator where experiments are done on the future of conservative policies." This was clearly true. May his 2026 loss tomorrow continue to prefigure fascism's future.

Oh did you want 3300 words from me on today's IOC sex testing rules? An essay on the nature of evidence and why we can't seem to stop getting stuck in the same traps around sex and gender in sports? Wow lucky you!!

One of the telling things for me is how consistent the messaging has been over the years that affecting cis women should be the motivator to oppose these policies, and yet trans women being fully pushed out of sports has been almost ignored as an injustice.

For me, the biggest takeaway is that many people in charge of trans healthcare view transition as harm, as a failure, as an unfavourable outcome to avoid. They fundamentally conceive of trans existence as a disease to cure, and feel themselves righteous advocating for our eradication.

Maybe it’s because I’m a colonial historian but so many of these white nation states seem to behave exactly like they did in the 19th century: ‘your leaders aren’t right for you,’ ‘we’re only killing you/colonizing you/installing puppet leaders for your own good’

I sort of wish y'all took this more seriously, because this attitude is a reinforcement of heterosexuality as a hierarchy. It's an acknowledgement and understanding that it's not enough to "be with" a woman, or even to father children. They define manhood as exploitation, abuse, and dominance.

Childbearing is physically dangerous & painful for women; childrearing is an exhausting, degraded, isolating, and impoverishing endeavor that annihilates women’s other opportunities & goals. When women are free, they choose fewer children. There is no way to make them have more that is not violent.

It really cannot be overstated how this type of traditionalist propaganda has worked its way into liberal and radical spaces through transphobic feminism. It's the same rhetorical trick--not accepting 'womanhood' (defined as reproductive capacity, naturalized as neutral) is 'misogyny.'

the synonymization of 'non-binary' with 'non-transitioning' is honestly ahistorical. people may not have always used that term, but 'transsexual who doesn't fit into a clean gender category' has been a thing for about as long as transition as been a thing (which is longer than cis people think)

The tepid, conflict-averse choice feminism of the 90s and aughts—which insisted on legitimizing women’s cooperation with patriarchy rather than challenging it—made room for the rise of tradwives by abandoning the principles that would have made a movement capable of coherently opposing them.

Okay. I'm going to talk about transmascs. When we eventually look back on the decade of feminist mismanagement since the 'transgender tipping point', we will judge its single greatest crime the utter refusal to reckon with transmasc oppression a) seriously, and b) as a distinct form of violence.

Patriarchy is a system of power, control, and sexual exploitation. It's sustained deliberately, systematically. It's not about lack of cultural imagination, or rigid-but-sincere assumptions about nature. It's not an accident. It can't be merely educated away.

I am so over the "Western binary". I am so over how people consistently, ignorantly, and frankly embarrassingly insist that the "gender binary" is so particularly Western and colonial and recent. It's a complete failure to juxtapose rhetoric on gender with how it actually, materially operates.

Precisely. Third-sexing trans people is a dehumanizing act, a shunting of us outside of the cissexist conception of humanity and a denial of our identity dignity. It is not a recognition of us as "non-binary", but a relegation of us to an underclass, undeserving of shared space with cis people.
