This is actually insane because we absolutely do not elect the president. The electoral college does. We don't have a direct representative model in the US in any shape.

I said "killing children is never okay" and got called antisemitic because apparently "everyone kills children not just isr*el" and I'd just like you all to refer back to my stated belief that, again "killing children is never okay"

UNTIL IT'S DONE, Ep. 2 When the Brownsville Clinic opened in 1916, it was the first birth control center in America. Its very existence felt impossible. For young women, it was a lifeline. 109 years later, the Clinic is long closedβbut Brownsville mothers are still struggling.

Both of these are good examples of "I still kind of like engaging with this material but I need a grown up version of this now" which is like, niche but I think I'd like more of it. I think the cozification and defanging of media is a dangerous, dangerous thing, and we deserve stories with teeth.

There is a core thrust of reactionary politics that promotes escapism as a tool of disarmament. They have made the world so hard none of us want to live in it. But this world is worth fighting for, too.

The Magicians says yes, it makes sense to cope with the trauma of real life with cozy, painless fiction. Real life sucks. Being depressed and rotting away into the trappings of one's childhood is an entirely normal response to this. But is that how you want to live forever? Can you have more?

My favorite story about escapism has to be The Magicians (2015) because it treats the desire itself as value neutral, and then spends seasons slowly and methodically taking it apart and showing us how deeply dangerous escapism is, how it traps us from ever growing up and ever, truly, healing.

I'd very much like to live in the world these people live in, where lesbians and lesbian works are everywhere, thriving, and unavoidable. What a beautiful and amazing world that would be. How fragile and bigotted you must have to be to think that's a shitty world to live in.

Lesbian literature exists as ephemera, as miracles in the dark fog of life. Very little of it ever goes mainstream compared to every other kind of work, and that which does is often bent and twisted for a straight audience. The good stuff thrives purely by community and the ecosystems we build.

the thing is, the underlying implication of βirreversible damageβ is of cause damage to the means of reproduction. it is implying that -becoming sterile- is a fatal flaw to a human that makes them worthless as a (reproductive) asset of patriarchy.

The offer made to women in the enticement to become trad wives is the same as the offer made to citizens in the enticement to embrace authoritarianism: give up. Abandon the aspiration to self rule. Itβs imprisonment recast as rest and relief.

Charlie Kirk was spreading lies and inciting violence against trans people right up until the moment he died. That is not "the right way" unless you think "the right politics" is violence against minorities.

As a trans nonbinary woman on E and T, transition is a broad set of tools I use to exercise my agency as a person internally but also to create legibility as a woman externally. Estrogen is responsible for many of the physical traits we culturally assign as feminine, there is no polite way around it

Charlie Kirk spent his lifeβs work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and weβre now not supposed to mention that because itβs not polite.
