thegamingbrit's video on silent hill 2 remake got him a lot of shit but he was 100% right when he said that constantly remaking classic games by destroying them completely to make them "look modern" is the creative impulse that leads to replacing everything with ai slop. same thing different degrees

it just seems like a really miserable and myopic way to engage with art to feel beholden to what is and is not Canon to never infer or imagine the unspoken details yourself

Yuuku preserved King's Field Mobile, a previously-lost King's Field i-mode game. A retelling of the PS1 original, it has different map layouts and an auto-map. For a real-time 3D 2004 keitai game, it's very ambitious. There's already an English patch too!

a lot of folks are interpreting this as "i think games shouldn't be fun or enjoyable." i'm not. i just think both games and players being more open to the idea of fun/fulfilment existing independently from "beating" something would probably leave a lot of us operating more normally

a major issue with video games is that they produce a bunch of people who consider themselves brain geniuses for solving problems that were designed to be solvable. as a remedy, we should be making more games that are actively and irreconcilably hostile to the player. thank you
