I was very proud of this essay at the time I wrote it, thought it was one of the most comprehensive and best things I've ever written, and then spent over a year having people scream at me and threaten me over it enough that I have tried to forget it existed. But I was fucking right about all of it.

Not giving the Lerners a pass, but I wonder how many things they’ve been blamed for by fans when it was actually Rizzo’s doing. For example, everyone was dumbfounded the team wouldn’t spring for that VR system that players wanted. What if Rizzo was like “VR? Not on my team. Did Hank Aaron need VR?”

Loser talk. Let the new guy bring in his guys, now. Things with scouting and development were clearly not working and it wasn’t just Rizzo. Why waste a year of evaluation of scouts on a team struggling with scouting and development.
