Sam Kieth did some of the covers Marvel's Toxic Crusaders comics, based on the cartoon. i'm a lifelong fan of his work. very sorry to hear he passed away. my gf and i have been rewatching MTV's The Maxx recently. funny how timing is sometimes.

Matt and I gush about the Bachalo-drawn Hydra goons who show up for the climax of this issue. This is a FUN group of losers for the Hulk to beat up on.

Jan Duursema pencils the first half of this book and gets a somewhat thankless task of doing all the “buildup” and none of the action. Still, there’s some really lovely work there. I wasn’t familiar with Duursema but she drew a TON of Star Wars (available on Unlimited) and it looks great.

I've never thought about it before but @comicbookian.bsky.social is spot-on that not including Rick Jones was a huge MCU misstep. On top of being the ground level identification character, Rick puts a face on the human toll of Bruce's WMD project.

Hulk #400 also contains a reprint of the Leader’s first appearance by Ditko & Lee. It’s a fun Silver Age nugget; in particular, I love The Leader’s reaction upon seeing his transformation for the first time (which is NOT how I would react). And on the right is just one of my favorite Hulk panels.

"He's like King Kong or Frankenstein in the Marvel Universe" is a great way to access Hulk as a concept. PAD was the first to truly tap into Jack Kirby's "Banner as his own monster" subtext (which of course Victor Frankenstein always was, going back to the source material).

I read Cap Wolf for the first time ever last night and the thing about these comics is that you could never make me dislike them even a little. There is a reason I read superhero comics and this is is, I don’t know what to tell you.

For being kind of a nothing character in the comics, Talbot does get picked up on as a romantic rival for Bruce in media like 2003's HULK, where his death scene is probably the only thing a lot of people remember about that movie.
