A pro-affordability, anti-Trump-corruption message unites the party. Every candidate can run on that, and every candidate can have their own take to fit that to their constituents. There's really no need to find fights to pick when the party agrees on more than it disagrees

Shout out to Long John Reilly, who made his living primarily as an artist (b/c baseball wasn't a practical job in the 1880s) & survived a shipwreck during his first major league season. Libraries are so cool. Whenever I'm away from home and need a place to hang out between things, I find a library. There's a bathroom, a water fountain, chairs, and I can read, meditate, use the computers, or just be, and no one tries me make me buy anything.

This! And you know what? I genuinely don't even know exactly *what* it is. Is it an app? A website? Some kind of add-on or plug-in? Don't tell me, I don't want to know. I will not use it.

The replies and quotes of this post are worth a read! I second: digital library content, accurate bus live tracking, comfy shoes for women. My silly example: I ❤️ the level app on my phone. Less silly: the last 10 years in picture books have been bonkers good-- and (moderately) more diverse!

Tangential to the point, but it bugs me that pop culture always shows bookish kids reading old classics. I was a stone cold certified bookworm. I read Choose Your Own Adventure. Newbery books, but 90s ones not 50s. Time travel, dragons, puzzle mysteries, neighborhood hijinks. Readers read FOR FUN!

President Trump is seizing control over DC police in a baseless act of political theater. It's time to make Washington, DC a state to protect the rights of everyone who lives in our nation's capital.

I think the best book to give a young reader is the book you think *they* are going to genuinely like. With fiction, I firmly believe focusing on reading great books is less important than becoming a person who thinks of reading as pleasurable.

If you like a publication and can afford to, subscribe to it. If you can’t, consider asking your library to make it available to you. And make sure your members of Congress know you support federal funding for libraries. And so on.

Former DC-er here, brainstorming crowd comps. Enormous draws (Obama’s 2nd inaugural, that Stewart-Colbert rally, any July 4th) & even big crowds (Nat Book Fest, my SIL’s GW grad, some protests) are irrelevant. This is like that one time they showed Gentlemen Prefer Blondes outside on a weeknight.
