If you look at the world, especially the US, we're desperately in need of better design, but design is not apps with luxury aesthetics. It's functional, ethical, sustainable, enjoyable systems, services, and products. Getting that stuff funded and facilitating the decision-making is the work.

The Voting Rights Act is essentially dead and it’s quite possible that we will, like when a similar SCOTUS gutted civil rights at the fall of Reconstruction, see a disappearance of much of the Black congressional representation, especially in the most heavily Black states, which are in the South.

If there is one hill I will die on, it is this: data is NEVER neutral, because the act of choosing how to quantify something is inherently opinion-based. "Data-driven" decisions are always a smokescreen. (if there is a second hill I will die on, it's that DS9 > TNG, but that's not in the article).

Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise. He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media. The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.
