What we found: this is enough information to prove upper bounds on the running time of the simplex method. Unlike all previous theory papers, we now have provable upper bounds for which _all assumptions are grounded in real-world observations_

The simplex algorithm is super efficient. 80 years of experience says it runs in linear time. Nobody can explain _why_ it is so fast. We invented a new algorithm analysis framework to find out.
