A little 19th century tomb in Green-Wood Cometary, Brooklyn, made for a child who died aged 15 mos. There is a very worn lamb on the oval pedestal; the carved chair has a tasseled cape draped over it and a baby’s shoe on top. The world before vaccines.

This the first semester since the pandemic that I have not received a Covid booster before the start of classes. Did the pandemic go away? Unfortunately no. Did I decide not to? Also, no. Was a deranged anti-vax grifter put in charge of public health in this country? Even more unfortunately yes.

If we made posters about leaving your leaves for lightning bugs, would you guys be into that? Would you put them up in public spaces? I feel like it's a straightforward actionable message & could make a v cute poster. It's a good example of one a charismatic species with a message that helps many.

Imagine a Democrat calling for the deportation of a Jewish Republican. You can’t. It would never happen. Our political and media elites talk nonstop about antisemitism while totally normalizing and amplifying the worst and most vicious Islamophobia. Sickening:

Our brains love the colour gradation in rainbows, maybe due to our ancestors searching for sources of water. Looking at plants helps us recover from stress & looking at something we think is beautiful causes dopamine release. I've posted this photo to alter your brain biochemistry for the better 🌿

Just a reminder: Kidnapping people when they are going to or from their immigration court appointments is not something you do if you are going after dangerous criminals: it is, however, something you do if you want to spread racist fear and nationalist repression (and are sort of lazy).

So are we just teaching our kids they have to obey anyone with a mask and an unmarked car and an oddly-fitting vest and zip ties now and go with them? Is this where we’re at?

Science break. This kayaker gets approached by an otter every time he visits a lake. The otter was orphaned after the mother was in an accident, and the man helped it throughout it's rehabilitation process to later release it back into the wild. Volume up.🔊

I follow French politics a lot, as many of you know. Any effort for mass layoffs of public sector employees there would create such huge strikes and marches, the level of disruption and paralysis would be biblical.

I just got one heck of a welcome home. Volume up, but not too high. The wolves were singing tonight. A few seconds in you’ll hear the closest howling wolf I’ve ever heard. I couldn’t see it, but it might have been at the end of my driveway. I went right back inside after this. 😊🐺🦊

As a kid two of the lessons I firmly believed from history and civic classes were: 1) The world would stand up to another genocide and stop it from happening 2) The US institutions would be a bulwark against fascism. Now I realize that those ideas were pretty much believing in Santa Claus

Bringing in so many plants. The cats think they’re trampolines. And yes the jades are irritating to the cats but they have been around them a lot so it’s ok no need to warn me 500 times. Many other plants are in the kitchen. Just for 5 days until the expected cold lets up.

When motorcyclists pass each other on the road they do a special wave to acknowledge each other. I want something like that for when you see another masked person in a public place - a little masking solidarity wave.

Rest in Peace, Jimmy Carter. You were a truly decent man in all ways. You made me proud of my home state when my home state did so much to bring shame. Thank you for your lifetime of service, kindness, charity, and decency.
