I don’t get what the problem is here. Casino Royale literally reset the character to a fresh recruit with his first kill, with Dame J Dench kept on as M from the Bronson years playing on his newbie status. Wiping the slate is well worn common practice here.

Apropos of nothing, I came up with one of those experimental variations of a drink I like while in Japan recently, a Negroni with no vermouth on hand. The “Tokyo Vespa” keeps the Campari and gin but subs in sweet sake for the vermouth. It’s slightly smoother I think. Kanpai!
