I am NightEyes DaySpring, a writer of gay furry fiction currently working on my third novel, which is a sequel to my first novel, Scars of the Golden Dancer. This week hasn't been great for writing, but I have made progress on some side projects.

I've been struggling with the state of the world, but I've kept on writing. The line, "because a despairing man doesn't write," is very true. I sometimes write because I need to channel all that frustration and anger into something. Doing things helps me feel better.

At least I have coffee. Wait, I haven't made coffee yet. -.-

"I don't write anything by hand anymore. Why would you?" Me clutching my paper planner and my mechanical pencils: *growling ferally* "You can take my paper away from me over my dead, furry body."

I'll also say that, if you're an author considering using AI in any capacity, you're only hurting yourself. Offloading tasks to a machine stunts your own intellectual and creative growth.

"I use ChatGPT for research." I don't get that. If I want to just make stuff up not based on reality, I just do that on my own.

I will continue to publish my little queer books for as long as I can. Want one, you can order direct from me.

I'll let this video I have saved to my hard drive speak for itself. Keep going and don't be afraid to fail.

When I wrote my short story "Mile High" back in 2018 I was aware that automatic safety systems on planes was a feature that would be coming soon. The plane in my story has one kick in and conduct an automatic descent to 10,000 feet due to a depressurization incident on the plane.

The more I learn about AI, the more the fact I can live without it feels like the right choice. I increasingly want to focus on craft with my writing and in my day job because of AI.

Requiem for a Dream Like I want to watch it again, but I don't know if I have the mental bandwidth to do it again. Just listening to the soundtrack destroys me. It's a good movie, but it's very heavy.

I have apparently dated myself as a furry by using the term "Merf!" in a chat with a friend.

Stupid things I have bought myself—a switchblade comb. It's practical, it's really nifty, it's great for travel, but I realize I will never be able to take this on a plane. I can see TSA dragging me away as a yell frantically, "It's a comb! It's a collapsible comb"

Coming back from MFF, I feel this. I'm very lucky to be working in a fandom that loves it's creatives, and to receive the support I do. I also am nowhere close to making a living as a writer, but your support does help me pay to attend cons where I can bring you my work and to pay cover artists.

Also, thank you so much to @slip-wolf.bsky.social, who because he drove to the con, brought a kitchen mat for me to use on that hard concrete floor. My footpaws greatly thank him today.
