I really like @jepsjournal.bsky.social's word limit conventions. Their full length articles is a short article in most other publications and their short report and essentially an extended abstract.

New paper in Nature. The more a government controls its domestic media, the more it dominates AI training data, the more pro-regime outputs we get from AI. By scraping the open web, LLMs are unwittingly laundering state-coordinated narratives into seemingly objective answers.

I've been trying to verbalize this sentiment for a while now and this comparison hit the nail right on the head. The technology won't go away, but it seems hard to believe that the current pervasiveness will be the steady state we settle into.

I am sure it varies wildly by discipline, but I haven not met anyone IRL doing quantitative political science that is strongly against using AI.

The first supersonic passenger aircraft launched in 1968. I still haven't flown in one. Just because technology exists doesn't mean that it will be scalable for the mass public. I wonder if this how AI will develop.

It's a good example of how the V-Dem MM deals with experts with varying reliability and different levels of DIF - since the expert diverged substantially from the other experts their contribution to the overall estimate was substantially downweighted. doi.org/10.1017/pan....

In a post-election survey I fielded between April 13 and yesterday, I asked Hungarian respondents (n = 1,060) to assess how the visit influenced their vote. We are delighted to present the new editorial team of the @ejpgjournal.bsky.social ! Led by @grahn.bsky.social and @maarja.bsky.social as co-EIC, the six-strong team represents a new generation of gender and politics and LGBTQ+ politics scholars who will take the journal forward from July 2026.

In Sweden, there is labour market discrimination against those who are active in the radical right Sweden Democrats, and to a lesser extent the Social Democrats. This pales in comparison to ethnic name discrimination which has much larger effects.

Excited to see this out in PRQ - it was a long time underway. The plot says it all: In democracies, finance ministers keep their jobs when the economy does well. In dictatorships, there is no such link. So, democratic institutions incentivize good performance!
