This is at least the second state AG office to create one of these "Strategic Litigation" divisions. Tennessee has one (formerly headed by Whitney Hermandorfer, now of the CA6). These cases are usually handled by the state SG. Do they need backup? Is this about credentialing more culture warriors?

I've thought that, of the two, Alito was the more likely to retire. He caught his white whale with Dobbs and, although unions still exist and we aren't a total Christian theocracy yet, he's certainly moved the needle there as well. He is also a partisan actor first and foremost, and ....

Another week without any (public) judicial nominees. The earliest any new nominees could appear before the SJC is now March 18 (assuming none have been secretly sent to the Committee already).

This is a shame. (I’m a graduate of the Jim Evans Academy, which closed up shop a decade or so ago.)

NEW: Western District of Wisconsin Chief Judge James Peterson, 68, will assume senior status when a successor is confirmed. Peterson was appointed by President Obama in 2014. Wisconsin has a Democratic senator who would have to sign off on any nominee.
