I find it incredibly admirable that a series as high-concept and kinda silly as Kingdom Hearts embraces that with complete earnestness; it knows it's over-the-top and fully commits to such. It's really refreshing especially in our current day of entertainment media's irony-poisoned insecurities.

I think Kingdom Hearts is one of a kind in the sense that it's the only long running franchise in AAA gaming with that level of vulnerability and sincerity. KH gives you it's admittedly ridiculous premise and expects you to connect with it earnestly all the same, it rules especially nowadays.
