You don’t have to like it when people you follow online fail. The problem is, social media offers a very incomplete picture. Not everyone sees the ways we hold ourselves and others accountable offline, and how we’ve changed through the years. Be uncomfortable - but remember that’s still a person.

The side effect this has also led to is that when all kinds of rumors are flying around about a person, that person admitting to/apologizing for ANY of them is immediately taken as evidence that ALL of them are true. People who want to take accountability for their mistakes worry for what it fuels.

One of the things that bothers me about the TADC situation is the lesson this kinda stuff teaches. The lesson I was always taught as a kid was, "if you do something wrong, you should say you're sorry and then try to do better." I think that's a pretty reasonable approach.
