the president can negotiate with congress. the president can offer proposals and suggestions. but the only direct control the president has over lawmaking is his ability to veto! once something is signed into law, he is constitutionally obligated to "faithfully execute" it!

By far the best thing about the Great American State Fair is that DC statehood activists have infiltrated it (with official permission!) and are lobbying attendees to support their cause. I saw several MAGA tourists receiving the polite but vigorous spiel for DC statehood and it warmed my heart.
