Yeah, I have a deep suspicion of any spirituality that only confirms one's prior beliefs and doesn't demand any change in one's thoughts or behavior. Spirituality is about challenge and growth. Otherwise, what's the point.

This is still my rule of thumb. For things where there's a lot of public information and where errors matter less (comparing headphones, tweaking camera settings, doing things related to hobbies), I find it very useful. Where there's less public info or the stakes are higher (work) I don't use it.

Yeah, but it also just seems very out of touch with what America is, which is a bunch of different cultures bubbling up across a huge geographic space. Like, LA is not NYC, for heaven's sake. Even Japan, which many people outside see as monolithic, is full of different cultures and dialects.

I think my biggest problem with this (and the biggest tell about the ideology behind it) is that "culture" is singular instead of plural.
