Incredible piece, but it needs to be said explicitly: these people are dangerous eugenicists. They want the "wrong" people to be exterminated and replaced by AI. That's abhorrent and you can't pretend otherwise.

A few weeks ago, I read the statistic that 50% of women leave tech by age 35. I thought about how I'm turning 35 this year and how many times I have come close to rage quitting. How I almost didn't make it into the industry in the first place because of gendered violence.

Here Arthur Mensch during his hearing before the French National Assembly "clarifies" his earlier point about conflating AI and digital services. He equates digital services with commodities that you can build with the help of (his) "AI".

The way these "AI checkers" work is very, very simple. It feeds part of the text into an LLM. If the LLM predicts, correctly, the missing text, it scores that as proof the LLM produced the text. And LLM's literally stole *every fucking book and forum post ever fucking written* to train on.

I love this metaphor for how to think about resisting "AI" -- yes we have to push back everywhere it's being forced on us, but also we have to fill in those spaces with resources, connection, and care, so that there is no room for technosolutionism.
