BONA TO VADA (Dorothy Arzner, 1934) In this groundbreaking sapphic screwball comedy, a notorious lesbian lothario (Marlene Dietrich) is harried and beguiled by a winsome and apparently scatterbrained damsel (Carole Lombard), who may or may not have amorous designs upon her.

The strix is a bird of ill omen in Italian folklore (often linked to owls). According to Ovid, the strix would drink babies' blood. However, Pliny claimed it would instead feed babies its own foul milk. In later legends, the strix was often a shapeshifting, bloodthirsty witch. #FolkloreSunday
