And then they might end up banning VPNs if this little Online Safety Act experiment fails because of it (it probably will), meaning people who have actual legitimate purposes for VPNs get fucked over, the tech industry suffers, and people (including teenagers) will *still find a way*.

Of course they're actively making child safety worse with the Online Safety Act. It being so overbearing is going to just lead more teenagers learning how to use a VPN to keep doing what they're doing, while them still being totally clueless to things that are actually harmful and dangerous online.

Actual improvements to the education system to teach children and teenagers how to stay safe on the internet as well as making them feel safe enough to let adults know what they're up to (mostly) would be way way WAY more effective than being all George Orwell about it but, hey, what do I know.

Heavy multi-billion dollar fines to Roblox, TikTok and Discord until they got moderation in gear (or went bankrupt) would be way more effective at keeping children safe than making adults need to give ID to talk to people or see images because a machine learning model thought it was inappropriate.
