Martin Parr was the first modern photographer I ever became aware of, when a newspaper ran a piece about his photos of Irish bungalows when I was a teenager. I thought this was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. Of course, looking at them now I see an xray of Ireland's relationship with property.

Ta ta Martin Parr. An exhibition of his early photos at The Barbican was the site of one of my first dates with Andrea. I was struck by his ghostly black and whites most of all, which are not representative of the majority of his work, but struck a deeper chord in me.
