I promise that if you're my age and just now hearing about the 6-7 meme thing you're not in on the joke, you're on the tail end of it and will look outdated if you try to use it.

When I was a kid my dad would make me to coin conventions. Every time the numismatists would say "if you ever find a rare coin, don't clean it, it will ruin the value," I think assuming that young people have absolutely no memory. To this day, out of spite, I launder my money

Ahmed al Ahmed, the man who tackled one of the Bondi killers, became an Australian citizen 3 years ago. His deed was "his way of conveying his gratitude for staying in Australia, for being granted citizenship." He took 5 bullets, and fears he'll lose his left arm.

I think that one of the biggest challenges with any kind of advocacy is that we're generally very good at determining value alignment, but very bad at determining operational alignment. To work with someone it isn't enough to agree about the overall thing you want to accomplish. 1/

If, hypothetically, your stance in 2015 was "I'm not super worried about attacks on speech from the left, but for the record 'free speech' is still an ideal we are going to need and sneering at it won't age well" — it would appear you had a point.

Superman has a surface of 2m^2, half facing the sun. Peak irradiance: 1kw. If perfectly efficient and sunbathed for 6 hr/day he could store 6kWh/day. A diesel locomotive can produce 4500kW. To be as powerful as a locomotive for 5 minutes: (4500*1/12) 375 kWh output. 2 months to charge for 5 min

It takes courage to risk your employment to speak truth. But it means that these NIH employees bear honest witness. They have preserved their intellectual integrity.

2011 at the occupy protests. I was actually doing a stand-up set to entertain the protestors. As I get more active again, I need to remind myself that I've been at this for a long time, just not in traditional ways, and it probably won't be in traditional ways going forward either

We each get a choice between resist and comply. If enough people resist, we get a payoff-dominant equilibrium and the regime falls. If not enough resist, resistors are punished and we have a risk-dominant equilibrium. Show that you and others are willing to resist. Make it easier for the next
