Set a dozen batologists free in Broadland & rightly anticipate a few interesting bramble records.. not a new-to-GB waterlily. Nymphaea candida has small flowers with erect petals, filaments wider than anthers & concave stigmatic disc. Leaves with anastomosing veins at edges. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

WFH today. Miris striatus on the doorstep, 62! Large Red Damselfly exuviae from the Hippurus pond out front so far. The magpie checked into the lab meeting and mass Badger mastication proceeded as normal.

Found a freshly emerged and very fecund female Emperor Moth here last Saturday. Completely still at the top of the vegetation, but evidently firing out pheromones so it wasn’t long before a male arrived. First breeding record in Bromley for a long time I’m told.

Just took the new INat Next app for a walk in the garden to test the live camera real-time species ID feature. Not perfect, but rather remarkable nonetheless. Great that the app now has most of the features available in the web version. #iNaturalist #iNatNext
