Cutting some plots when maximum nutrient removal happens, when grasses flowering and leaving other plots to later in year (when grasses move most nutrients lower into uncut part of grass) avoids this loss of all vegetation, in time moving plots should remove the anthropogenic nitrogen increase.

Golf club near my home removes sod/turf in a grassland using turves to repair features in links. This is a clay substrate, Meadow Foxtail, Cock's-foot, Meadow Barley, Timothy grassland. Removing the vegetation enables pioneer early succession species to grow for a short while before grass regrows.

I recollect lecturer when I was taught about this saying something like "plants evolved, produced oxygen, the world rusted", the rust in sandstone includes silicate, both iron and silicate were abundant, and diurnal cycle matters. Good research worth reading.
