Funds owed to Gateway have been released! This is great news and will let construction restart next week. However this only represents 1.7% of the $12 billion total. Two court cases are ongoing to unfreeze the rest. Until all the money is unfrozen, the project is still vulnerable to funding lapses

Feds are dragging their feet on releasing $200m owed to Gateway, even as workers are laid off and the project is still spending money to wind down construction. Defying the courts is a trademark of this administration.

Per my colleague @mollycranenewman.bsky.social, Judge Vargas denied the request Monday, but granted an administrative stay on her TRO until Thursday for the feds to appeal to the second circuit. Effectively puts any return of funding on hold until Thursday at the earliest

The Gateway project was physical proof that America can still build massive public works, like we did during the New Deal. We could literally see the tunnel being dug on 12th av. The tunnel boring machines were gonna start drilling in a matter of weeks. This was really happening! And now it's not.
