I bought one of the coolest looking early 2000s Lian-Li cases - the PC35. BNIB and arriving today. I plan to build a high-end 2001 gaming system in it based on the original Athlon XP 1800+. Obviously needs RAID0 with those lockable bays :) .. now to find a pair of working IBM Deskstar drives 🫠

Then it started to run some code!👀 But it always stalled at C1 BE, which is a RAM detection problem🤔 After checking the manual I realized that I need 4 SIMM sticks for a bank, which I only have 2. So the repair stops here l, for now🫠

Pulled out this PCChips/Hsin Tech M601 ver 1.3 to look at. The board showed no attempt to run any code. With a closer look, I noticed that the chipset is falling off the board😅 Since it’s a bad idea to try to fix it in place, I took it off the board and realigned the legs and put it back on😌

This is what disk mould looks like. If you see this on your old disks then clean them BEFORE putting them into a disk drive. Otherwise, you are likely to clog up the drive read/write head and/or possibly damage the disk. Clean with diluted Isopropyl alcohol ( IPA ) on a soft, lint-free cloth.
