What does the settler know of "violence", except how to impose it on others?

Violence is your own people choosing the illusion of security and joining their police and their migra and convincing themselves that they are righteous.

Violence is blaming yourself for the dead children that the colonizers have murdered. Violence is knowing you had no power and still praying to their god hoping he has mercy and he does not because he is a lie, a fiction passed down to you to enslave your ancestors.

Violence is other Whites looking at you and you must stand shoulder to shoulder with your father and they laugh and joke that you are not related. And you must bear it.

Violence is when your anger against injustice is called "crazy" by those who know nothing of what your people have suffered. Violence is hearing and seeing the bombs and the bullets in your dreams.

Violence is seeing the vast network of monies that were used to murder your people. And seeing the jeers as others mock the stature of your people. Violence is seeing how your people are erased from the memory of the world.

Violence is grasping after the past, reading about your ancestors through the eyes of scholars who had the privilege to step in places that are your birthright. It has no meaning to them. It is mere stone and dirt.

Violence is the erratic behavior of your sister, who you can never know what she has suffered on the streets of the homeland. Violence is the scraps, these few pictures we have of the family together. The government will not talk to you of who you are. They ignore your requests.

Let me cordially speak on this topic of "violence" Violence is never knowing your abuelo. His story is only tragedy to you. Violence is hearing in half remembered stories the heroism of your abuela. You knew her only as a broken old woman. She tells you to thank God at every meal for your family.

A lot of people are still here and haven't been detained because of the organizing work that's gone on in this city. The objectives of our enemies are not inevitable. We need to think about how we are going to push back, narratively and strategically, rather than falling into despair.

In Chicago right now, I know some folks are discouraged bc ICE has been relentless, and is spreading out its attacks across Chicagoland, which makes it very hard for folks to mobilize and respond. But I also think about why they have to do that—all of the organizing that has made their jobs harder.

I know the courtroom stuff always feels particularly shaky, given that SCOTUS is right-wing as hell (remember, they don't take every case), and Trump sometimes defies the courts, but that isn't always the case, and every time that it isn't matters for the people whose lives are immediately impacted.

Do not assume that everything they set out to do is inevitable. They have been successfully fought on multiple fronts, from courtroom wins that have actually stuck to city and state governments that haven't backed down, to activists in the streets organizing against their violence.
