Looks like Steven Drozd and The Flaming Lips have parted company. That's the end of that, though they really haven't released anything decent since 2013. Not a good look when a founding member in Michael Ivins and your musical genius both leave the band.

I was writing songs anyway (Neil Young thanks for the inspiration) but the lad I sat next to in Leaving Cert. Irish had a band and I knew I could do better than him.

Rocked up to screening at Cork Film Festival with a bag of cans and doled them out to everyone in the theatre. No idea what we watched but we had a great time.

I've posted this before but always worth a mention that midway through a showing of Jeanne Dielmann, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, the guy sitting in front of me looked up 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles on Google Maps.

Listening to 'Caribbean Sunset' by John Cale for the first time and holy fuck is it unfairly maligned. Some absolute bangers on here, Cale on top form. I can only imagine the cover art didn't help its cause but what a record.

There's a new Predator movie out so it's as good a time as any to say that, if I was given the opportunity to add an addition to any franchise, I'd have the Predator land in Glasgow in the 80s during an Old Firm fixture.

Listening to Radiohead in advance of the London gigs and it is astonishing how few good songs they released pre-'OK Computer'. Boils down to one or two off the first album, half a dozen off 'The Bends' and one great b-side. A diabolical track record to that point.

parents, please keep an eye on your children's sweets this halloween. I was just reading on whatsapp that a child from the area arrived home with an innocent-seeming pack of haribo that turned out to be full of photofits of the infamous yorkshire ripper.

Melvyn Bragg: Hello. There is little doubt that Wittgenstein was a towering figure of the 20th century; on his return to Cambridge in 1929 Maynard Keynes wrote, โWell, God has arrived. I met him on the 5:15 trainโ Conway The Machine: "It's not how it is but That it is!" Westside Gunn: (choo choooo!)

"calls into question, why are the Government not doing something about it?" Unfortunately the answer is easy. Managing floods like this would need landscape scale action including rewilding rivers and rewetting land and the government are fundamentally opposed to anything positive for nature
