One of the things I always find telling is the idea that we have to judge past people by the standards of their time, as if the fact that they did bad things means that everyone thought it was okay. They didn't. Pretty much every obviously evil act had people saying that it was, in fact, bad.

Nobody deserves to be killed for their words, no matter how much you agree/disagree. I fear this is setting a match to a powder keg. Violence perpetuates violence. The rhetoric on social media is scary

It’s not simply important to denounce political violence because it looks bad not to. It’s the right thing to do on the merits. Even more specifically to this moment it’s important because the forces of fascism are inherently better at political violence than the forces of civic democracy.

Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence. Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets. Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe. It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

Del Rio TX is among the NWS locations in which balloons launches haven't skipped a beat. Data from the Thursday evening radiosonde played a crucial role in the Weather Prediction Center & NWS San Antonio properly warning ahead of the 1-in-1000 year event (which these days happen more frequently).

MRMS 3-hour rainfall ending at 4 am CT had 5-10" amounts falling all across the south fork of the Guadalupe. The river gage at Hunt - yellow square - where the 2 forks meet recorded 6.49" of rain in 3 hr before it failed at 4:35 am. FLASH unit streamflow showed insane hydrologic response. Horrifying
