NYD reflecting: My Dad died 44 years ago today when I was still in my teens. I never really knew him - he had a roaming life working away helping build power stations all round the country. He sent money home for my Mum to bring me and my two sisters up. I’ve now lived six years longer than him.

Generally positive @guardian review of Bowie: The Final Act. Not sure about the claim that the 90s/00s “weren’t Bowie’s golden years”. Many of us see Buddha, Outside, Earthling & Hours… as a creative renaissance after an unchallenging 80s. Still, it will be an interesting watch.

How these things trigger memories - back in the early 90’s I was my employers out of hours alarm responder. Cue pager notifications at 3am in Feb. Jump on my motorbike, ride down narrow Surrey lanes to the dark building. Wander around Scooby Doo style - usually spiders or rats. Reset alarm, go home.
