The shop is open and the papers are ready when I arrive; the shopkeeper says her husband dropped her off at 5.45. Doug walks in and the shopkeeper says ‘What a pleasant surprise!’ He says he’s getting ready to cut his hedges. A man comes in and buys pop and crisps.
