Our new paper, led by @renatopolimanti.bsky.social and I, and published today in Nature Genetics, is the largest multi-ancestry GWAS of endometriosis to date including 1.4 million women, 105,869 cases, six global ancestry groups. Previous studies were almost exclusively European.

Excited about our new preprint: 1st successful genome-wide study of >61,000 panic attack and 29,000 panic disorder cases. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1... We find 17 associations & evidence that peripheral neurons in eye, lungs and heart are involved in panic & other psychiatric disorders 1/n

One (out of many) experience I think about often is with a Columbia professor at SOBP in 2022. He didn’t ask about my research, just “Where is lunch?”. When he learned I worked at Yale, he said I didn’t have a “Yale accent” and that he only knew where Hungary was because of the “many addicts”.

I am from Hungary, I have seen this before. This is Orbán’s playbook on a larger scale. He has been in power for 15 years, and among many other things, his government has taken over academic institutions. Now science is in crisis, and researchers can’t receive EU funds. Terrifying times for the US.
