Society absolutely does treat trans women as women, but we're automatically "demoted" to the same rung as sex workers. We can both be seen and shamefully used as sex objects, but neither are seen as "desirable breeding stock" from a patriarchal worldview.

The contradiction at the heart of transmisogyny has always been that people will insist they don't see us as women while treating us exactly like women, and specifically as women they are entitled to sexually exploit or brutalize.
