2. Grace Byron, "Herculine: A Novel" - an enormously impressive debut - a novel about surviving NYC, the inescapability of the theological, trans collectivity as a ground of dis/utopia and the sublime possiblity that who you were is not a limit on who you may become. An amazing horror novel.

Have been reading Herculine (nearing the 50% point), and holy fuck am I having a blast. Love a novel where I need to stop every few paragraphs to finger laceration left behind by these sentences of scalpel sharp sublimity.

This whole segment was delightful in describing cis despicability and the movements of transmisogyny. I love every time trans women make art that lays this out, staring the world in the face to say that we see you and you are not slick.

Also, I read more good books than usual through non-library methods. These are most of them I think.

Also this part: "He was the kind of Brooklyn white guy to react if you critiqued the micro-identity he'd carefully formed through years of scrolling."

Just started @emotrophywife.bsky.social 's Herculine and can already recommend it for language alone. Haven't read a book in a long time where the author really nails the syllabic rhythm within prose...
