Kiddo #2 got accepted today to their dream program at their dream school and hoo boy do I have all of the mixed feelings about that, especially as it’s going to take them to NYC. But overall I’m super happy for them, and excited about their coming adventure.

Re-reading Tobias Buckell's ARCTIC RISING, a near future political/eco/thriller, published in 2012. Besides being a gripping story, Buckell did smart, nuanced, & imaginative research & speculation about the near future, & it pays off: the novel could have been written today & still feel plausible.

I participated with First Draft Detroit (an independent offshoot of that one November writing org) and had a great time. Being indie allowed people to participate and compete in a lot of different ways (one person was even painting) and still get nice creative community. 10/10 will draft again
