I'm saying nothing pro or con, but some people have positive notions about my work, and even me. These people will do well to get a look at books by Jill Pinkwater. This is the actual stuff. People being what they are, (pathetic), I got most of the attention. Jill couldn't have cared less.

Of course I'm happy about it. Talented and enthusiastic people are going to make a movie prompted, inspired, in some way related to, my book. They are not about to slavishly try to translate it literally to cinema, which would be awful. Maybe some part of the spirit of the book will be in the movie.

The best of my readers, (note, I don't say the best of my books), go on resonating after the reading is done. The director of this film will make a film not from the book but from the resonance within himself. This is the best possible way a film can happen. And no work at all for DMP! 😃

Been checking the internet...more mentions than the time the classroom test company mangled an excerpt from a book of mine added unanswerable questions the kids went mad and I got interviewed by all the NYC papers. This time it's a zillion posts how The Rock lost 70 lbs for his role as Chicken Man.

I was told by a Hollywood guy the filmmaker never has the least contact with the book writer, for obvious reasons. With Benny it's ok. We're friends. He knows I think he should smack the book to little pieces with a hammer and then glue the pieces together to make a brand new mosaic.

Did I tell about the Irish production of Ulysses by James Joyce? Joyce is right after Jesus in Ireland. This film was so respectful of the book that the actors on the screen were yawning. Only time I ever fell deeply asleep in a movie house.

"Good books make bad movies, bad books make good ones." I always urge people not to respect my book too much. This way if the movie is good I can claim it was because they followed my advice, and if it's bad it's because good books make bad movies. Just they should make it and send me my check.

There's been some filmmaker or other scratching together option money for the past 50 years. You have to admire these types, they love the form and are willing to play long odds. This time looks like actually happening, but I think it's not for me to do any announcing. Fingers crossed.

Well obviously I wouldn't do it if it weren't fun, and since I am ridiculously rich, it wouldn't matter to me if it wasn't commercially successful, but I wouldn't want to involve another artist unless I knew there was interest.

Several people seem interested, so here's the whole statement: I have NOT done some work of serious literature disguised as children's books. I never was much interested in children's books even. I ever did it because of an easy dollar, plus I found the work amusing. And, I was good at it. Alles.

Then, being quite good at being a human, I would have had to bless your enterprise, and been deprived the fun of kicking your ass.

This is what rectangular thinkers never get--when the Zen master tries to chase the prospective disciple away he's sincerely hoping the pisher will actually get lost.

We should all of us, always, have used a pseudonym. When young I did things I thought I might be ashamed of later in the name of George D. Rose, and when I visited Japan after Arthur Tress had been there, the natives said, "Oh Pinkwater-san, you bad boy, you are here again."

I have been advised that I am wrong to be publicly mean to Mr. Johnson, who undertook an impressive study and analysis of my work, which he loves, and chose to publicly present it. I could claim he blew my cover by doing so, except I never had any specific intention. So the criticism is warranted.

Well, as I understood it, you were the ones colleagues looked to for answers to those questions involving publishing and Judaica which come up from time to time. Plus you had the additional utility of being available to strike a light on the sabbath, etc.
