A Sci-Fi & Fantasy loving bookseller.
On my week off, I bought one or two books....and a Jellycat 😂 Visits to Waterstones York, Edinburgh West End & Durham.

I really, really dislike spiders, but this one was just chillin' minding it's own business.

Can our intrepid duo solve the mystery of the kidnapped gentleman via a series of bank robberies, and find the beagle? Absolute genius....funny, quirky, thrilling, the Victorian age on electricity.

Thank you to
@orbitbooks.bsky.social
for this beautiful book by M R Carey. Not sure what I was expecting, but I loved this medieval, monstrous, magnificent seven. Ideally paced, plenty of action & unexpectedly brave & honourable characters.

was a lot of fun. An excellent mash-up of gothic horror & Sherlockian crime drama. Will keep you guess.

I didn't realise that one of the benefits of having boiler replacement work, was having the time to finish the most excellent The Hidden Legion by
@snorrikristjansson.bsky.social
Loved the premise, the setting & the eclectic cast of characters. Looking forward to picking up The Silent Emperor.

When you come home from work & your husband sees your new book 🙄. My TBR pile is not getting any smaller, although Rose/House is a novella, so TBR is not much taller. 😂

The Runes of Engagement from
@tobiasbuckell.bsky.social
&
@daveklecha.bsky.social
is a hugely enjoyable mash-up of military & fantasy tropes. Action-packed, nerd reference aplenty & props for naming the British base after Commander Vimes.

I must thank
@scalzi.com
who featured The Serpent and the Knife in Whatever. A fun all-action ride across multiple dimensions. Espionage, smart-arse AIs & complicated relationships.

"The Dead Cat Tail Assassins are not cats. Nor do they have tails. But they are most assuredly dead" Just love
@pdjeliclark.bsky.social
stories & the above is a wonderful example of the quirkiness of the story. Assassins, contracts with dark gods, friends & honour. Plenty of action & tension too.

So, my first post is a book recommendation. Stuart Turton has done it again. The Last Murder at the End of the World is a future-set distopian murder mystery. Amazing world-building & fascinating characters. Twists & turns aplenty.
