My forthcoming novel UNLEASHED is set in a mountainside forest where the needles underfoot deaden sound and visibility is restricted to a few feet: exactly the kind of place that terrified me as a kid. I always thought something was lurking. And in the book, something is.

I just wrote a prologue for the mystery novel I'm working on, and it might just be one of the best pieces of descriptive prose I've written

After signing several thousand copies of the Jitterbug hardback edition at CPI Group I signed a print of the cover art which was framed and displayed in their offices. Also, because there were fork-lifts and around, I had to wear one of those high-viz vests with "AUTHOR" printed across the back!

100% this. Libraries are essential community assets. (And in the UK, authors get a small royalty from the PLR every time someone borrows one of their books).

Although I love science fiction, I never wanted to become repetitive. Branching out into horror (first novel coming in 2027) and mystery (in progress) have really revitalised my creativity and my love of storytelling. I will return to SF in due course, but no longer be solely an SF author.

At some point over the next few weeks, I should be getting the edits back for my forthcoming horror novel UNLEASHED, and I’m actually pretty excited for them. Usually, I hate editing but I had such a great experience writing this book that I’m eager to return to the world contained in its pages.

It’s hot in the bookshop again this morning, but at least now we have a tower fan so it’s not quite as insufferable as it has been

Six reasons you should be reading this book!

I saw someone posting about how some readers on TikTok only read dialogue and not description in books, so they can read them faster and I don’t understand this gamification of reading to the point where the number of books read is more important than enjoying and savouring them as works of art.

This is an extraordinary #book about the way we are born into the world with no reference points save what we’re told, and how we have to try and make sense of a potentially pointless existence. I’m going to be thinking about it for a while.
