I always found the Cybertag VR setup that used Wolfenstein 3D fascinating. It was a multiplayer arcade setup with an early HMD.

When the Steam machine was announced it reminded me of an attempt at a Linux based console 25 years ago. The Indrema L600. They boasted 30 games at launch, included a DVD player, a GeForce 3 and many other features. All for 300 USD. Very ambitious for the time but sadly it was never to be.
