A brutal game with a learning curve from 2001, made by the same people who would go on to form MercurySteam and later develop Metroid Dread. In a flippant way you could say it's a Proto Souls like with some mechanics, but it really does its own thing. With some depth to its combat.

I kind of admire the respawning enemies in NOLF 2's stealth levels, even if they went a bit heavy handed. Your instinct is to wipe everyone out and have free reign in a level, but if you self-enforce ghosting they force you to use tracker ammo and take your time avoiding patrols. Impatience filter.

I would simply not play a game I'm interested in for the first time with mods, but maybe that's just me

This might be a spicy take, but you know, when something so universally awful looking as that Deus Ex remaster comes out, it's probably the best case scenario. Hating it for shallow graphical reasons, while not quite the right reasons, is still hating it.

The “badassification” of retro-FPS games in the public eye has made people completely misunderstand what made the games great.

Took a little break to fiddle with other projects, but gonna push a small update to the pack with some bits and pieces. Broken glass textures hopefully won't be far behind.

Reposting an old scene - 2005 Mood Hard stencil shadows and heavily normal-mapped textures create an interesting look that I'd love to see revived in some retro FPS one day. Art direction akin to Doom 3, FEAR or Chaos Theory.

Played the forgotten (?) Myst-like, Sentinel: Descendants of Time. Some ridiculously tedious puzzles compared to Myst, or Riven even, but absolutely stellar art direction. Looks incredible for 2004. LithTech baby.

Recently learned there was a fantasy Counter-Strike clone made in 2001 set in the Might and Magic universe. It's a blatant copy, but there's some neat new ideas like populating the maps with monsters, or competitive dragon slaying.

I haven't forgotten about the free Quake textures btw. I'm also working on a hugely expanded version of the pirate textures I made for my Remix Jam entry.
