I was genuinely considering quitting Mafia: The Old Country right before it hit its stride in the final act which is actually really great? And kind of made me like the game overall? Now I'm gonna have that extra bit of anxiety about every game I quit a game early

A few hours into Mafia: The Old Country and I'm mixed. Mafia 1 and 2 used linearity and menial work gameplay as a storytelling device, so this game goes "back to the series roots" by being extremely linear and having extreme amounts menial work. As if to say look guys it's just like the old ones!!

Clair Obscur has an incredible opening but the next 10 hours feels like an endless hallway. I'm annoyed because I love the melodrama, music, and acting, but I find trawling through the levels to be pretty tedious. I'm also not hot on the parrying, and the initial story hooks have faded for me. help

Death Stranding 2 representing Australian wildlife and our climate change issues is so cool man. It's just nice to have a game feature us in a way that isn't just "gday mate straya cunts" I feel very seen by daddy kojima playing this. Great game too, this series is so so special and so confident

Unapologetically reminding you that Samurai Unicorn is shaping up to be the coolest Australian game. Give us a couple more years and you might feel the same way.

I tried the Riders Republic skating DLC and this game is still one of the biggest wasted potentials we've seen from AAA gaming recently innit. WHY is it so committed to having loose, gooey, overly assisted and forgiving mechanics for highly precise and skilful sports. I should love this game but ugh

Enjoying the Mafia: The Old Country reviews

I didn't like the new Fantastic Four film but it's had such a great reception, so I've been trying to find like-minded people who also didn't like it so I don't feel crazy. And I've been failing. So now I feel both crazy and like an annoying contrarian. But the movie was so dull! And miscast!! Help

People can way overvalue gameplay when analysing games. Like a game can be brilliant in every way but if the gameplay is a bit whatever then the game has to be mid. Years of people repeating "gameplay is the only thing that matters" and john carmack's story quote did a number on people's enjoyment

I've been catching up on "games i saw in passing and always wondered what they were" so soon I'm going to play The Last Story on Wii, which when I search opinions of it online, people either think it's extremely bland or extremely ambitious, no in-between. this is my kind of game I'm very excited

ever since i posted my True Crime: Streets of LA video i have discovered a cohort of True Crime: Streets of LA fans who will not tolerate any slights, jokes, or gaffs towards True Crime: Streets of LA. one comment says "Don’t ever disrespect true crime again buddy" pulling out the 'buddy' treatment

i've almost played through all of Tony Hawk 3+4 and i tried to remain optimistic but i think taking out the Pro Skater 4 career doesn't work, and this package just feels a bit hollow to me because of it. 1+2 felt like it went the extra mile, whereas 3+4 feels a little too bare minimum

the Persona 5 okumura boss fight with the time limit and the respawning robots is very bad. it could've been good if they built up to it but instead it's like "hey hope you have some psy attacks because if not we're about to waste your time" thanks everyone i needed to get this off my chest

Lots of shitty gaming news this last week and one story that got drowned out was that Outriders 2 was cancelled which sucks because Outriders was actually kinda rad. And seemingly pretty successful? Not to be one of those steam stat guys but it peaked at 125k players and was also on gamepass

Michael Madsen was one of my favourite actors, the man could steal a scene. He was at his best when he was playing dirtbag villains, and I don't think we'll ever see another actor quite play that scary/rough/charming type in the same way. He was all presence

my favourite thing about Persona 5 is how often the main character ignores his friends' text messages. his mate will be like "hey bro I'm having a hard time and I need cheering up, can we please catch up?" and you'll just not even seen the message and go to an onsen alone. charm +1

fresh take here: Persona 5 is a good video game. I'm impressed with how it keeps pace, like it's 100 hrs long and somehow feels suitable for an ADHD brain with how it jumps between scenes and maintains character drama. also if my character traits in real life had levels maybe id work on them idk

Fun Fact: Driv3r on PS2 has a unified shadow volume system of some sort which means that objects have self-shadows and cast on other objects. Including this in an open world game on this system is darn impressive. Also has specular highlights on the tarmac. It’s a buggy but impressive game.
