Landed in Denver last night. I'd forgotten how quickly I mummify at altitude.

Maybe used up all my air travel luck on my European vacation. Spent ~45 minutes on the tarmac in Nashville before a maintenance issue was determined to be severe enough to make us deplane. This is after the flight was already delayed over an hour. Will our hero ever get to Denver? Stay tuned!

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but live music in the Nashville airport is unpleasant. I don't need some joker (derogatory) doing an acoustic Skynyrd cover to add to the chaos and din and general dehumanizing oppression of modern air travel.

One of the things about the 1990’s is that they could have made a Bill Maher erotic thriller and they never did. Say what you want about that time period but they didn’t do that.

Also not helping- it's the Feast of the Immaculate Conception today and that's a full public holiday in Austria, so all kinds of things aren't open. That said, huge shout out to the front desk staff at the Hilton Vienna Waterfront for being kind and helpful to an idiot abroad.

I'm generally a bit of a Scrooge/Grinch/Heat Miser/Dr. Bill Harford when it comes to getting into the Christmas spirit, but the whole Advent in Zagreb Christmas market thing was pretty neat.

Are these two characters who would be immediately recognized by German children, or are they instead just sort of weird generic figures meant to evoke some mythic vision of German airports?

on a related note, I'd love any recommendations for Zagreb (less necessary, thanks to my hosts), Graz, or Vienna. Also I guess for breakfast at the Munich airport.

a cool thing is thinking that you've lost your passport the night before a big international trip also cool- convincing yourself that your flight is actually tonight and not tomorrow coolest? finding your passport and confirming that your flight is actually tomorrow, like you thought

watching The Pink Panther (1963) for the first time in a long time and it certainly isn't the strongest of the series, but Claudia Cardinale! Capucine! hubba-hubba! awoooga! other cartoon wolf noises! Also Peter Sellers getting cucked by David Niven is pretty funny.

Really, really enjoyed Wake Up Dead Man (2025), but making a movie that taps into the Catholicism of my upbringing and uses a Tom Waits song is sort of like using a cheat code.
