—You don't have to be Catholic (I'm not) to be buoyed by last week's news at the Vatican. —You don't have to be Episcopalian (how I was raised) to be buoyed by Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde in National Cathedral on Jan 21. And by US Episcopal leadership this week:

The Canadian election is definitely the only election in a developed country I can remember where the central pitch of the winning party was essentially “this country should exist”.

Hey NBC and Seth Meyers, y’all need to book the largest possible venue in D.C. on April 26th and do a competing fundraiser and comedy show that actually celebrates the First Amendment. Televise it. Make Amber Ruffin the central act. Send a message that free speech is non-negotiable.

I keep hearing comments that elected Dems don’t know what to do because they are in the minority. How many smallish-audience podcasts did you do this week with Dems working hard to build up their audiences? If you want an alternative media universe, you have to help create it.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges. This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.

this is the "merit" two-step. first, you strongly imply or state outright that the presence of anyone who isn't a straight, able-bodied white man is unfair "DEI," then you argue that just because an institution is all-male and lily-white doesn't mean there is discrimination. that's just merit!
