Still meeting the neighbors. This one is cute, makes beautiful noises, but for some reason Mr. and Mrs. Squirrel are leary around him.

Emergency appointment with my surgeon at 3-weeks post-op. (I had what should have been an internal stitch sticking out--but that's another story) She fixes the issue, looks at me and says: "Wow! You're a good little healer!" It was adorable.

I'm a gritty detective solving a disproportional number of murders in a village and rambling over the moor with my dog Clive. My housekeeper wonders why I've never gotten married. (It's was one of the Sergeant Cluff books--working my way through British Library's crime classics).

Blue Books were not something I ever dreaded. Blue Books meant I had a chance to 1) show what I knew, 2) think creatively with that I formation, and 3) explain my points and ideas for (generally) as long as needed.

Just in time for Christmas! I’m excited to finally be holding a copy of my book, Structural Multistabilities and Listening Experiences in Minimalist Music. I’ve been working on it for so long, so I’m proud to announce that it is published! Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this possible!

Was reminded last night of why I keep my email on my phone: writing inspiration hit at 11pm when I was in bed. Grabbed the phone, went into drafts where I keep an email to myself. Wrote down enough mediocrity for Future Me, and went back to sleep. Didn't even turn the light on.

In Zaragoza, Spain, the sculpture La Mujer Que Nunca Hizo Nada (The Woman Who Never Did Anything) pays tribute to the often overlooked, unpaid work of women at home that keeps families & societies functioning. Xmas is one of their busiest times

I have, for reasons of mental health, been taking a very long break from most social media. I'm not 100% back to my old antics, but I am going to come back to BlueSky. I've missed the academic community here.

It's 25F out with a wind chill of 12F (-4/-11C) and I'm about to talk out the door with fairly wet hair. Will report later if my hair freezes. Fun fact: my hair doesn't like dryers. I look like a frightened cat and it takes me ~45 min to get to "mostly dry."

In The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, after hearing about a massive & deadly scapegoating, the narrator asks why the peasants didn't attack the landlords, their true enemies, & is told, "When your real enemies are too strong, you get weaker enemies," & every day I think about this & also see it

It’s mostly white people who talk about echo chambers. Maybe you need the internet to meet people with different ideas but the rest of us do not. We know what the “other side” thinks because we deal with it every day! Everywhere! We’re fine. Carry on. Happy Saturday!

Was reading an analysis essay that had a clearly marked "history" section. I was expecting schlocky filler-type stuff (super common) but instead was met with one of the most well-written and researched takes on composer style I've ever seen in a graduate-level essay. Made my day.
