It’s turns out that “Trump Derangement Syndrome” is actually just PTSD.

Trump is a devil and he offers only a devil’s bargain: give him everything you’ve got and he will take it, and ruin you.

There’s nothing he will give, no deal or bargain or concession, that will ever be worth what you give up by appearing to surrender to him.

It really comes back to the fight/don’t fight axis being more important than the left/right axis. Democrats and old-school (nearly extinct) Republicans seem to carry around this framework that voters know, care, and vote based on policy.

So the Democrats seem to imagine this “swing voter” who wants a little bit of right wing trump sauce in their porridge, just not TOO much. A smidge of Joe Rogan misogyny, a pinch of “well, the border IS a problem obviously…” or “tariffs CAN work under certain circumstances…”
