Larger point: Carjackings are down a ton in DC this year. They were down before the deployment, they're equally down now. Those who jumped to credit the deployment for an enormous drop in carjackings were far too premature and lacking context IMO.

Since the start of July, there have been virtually as many carjackings in DC in the 41 days since the National Guard was deployed (21) as in the 41 days preceding that deployment (22).

Begging journalists not to report on crime trends like this. DC crime was already falling relative to 2024 prior to the federal intervention, so it comes as no surprise that it was also down during this stretch.
