🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional! ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

This is the Trump administration trashing the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution in pursuit of its mass deportation agenda. Worse, a footnote to this memo suggest they won't even rule out authorizing home invasions with no judicial warrant for people not even ordered removed!

Simple thing: the states are subordinate but separate sovereign powers in the US constitutional system. They have robust powers to self-govern and resist criminal and unconstitutional infringement from a corrupt, renegade federal executive. Tell the Feds to bring it.

This is the entire function of keeping entities like the DOJ insulated from political decisions too, one can only ensure an equal application of justice under the law if they are assured to things like a fair trial when accused of a crime and some semblance of an impartial judge & jury.

The normal standards on "peaceably demonstrate" as outlined in the 1st amendment do assume, to a degree, that it's a demonstration against an entity that is operating in good faith and with high regard to the limits of government within the constitution.

Why should a civilian population be held to the standard of lawful conduct and restraint in their response to an authority acting unlawfully and without restraint? How is it meant to be effective to peacefully demonstrate against an authority with a monopoly on violence and isn't afraid to use it?

Making 60 votes the minimum to pass anything through the senate is insane. It's why it feels like Congress never gets anything done. Nothing does! Even when parties win a huge mandate, if they only have 59 (unfathomable!) senators instead of 60, their agenda is basically DOA.

Ranked choice voting is kind of growing on me. I like that it kind of helps voters get away from the usual "plug your nose and vote for 'X' candidate" system we have. We just need to uncouple the electoral college from the number of house members and senators so it represents population better.
